Racing  Competitor

Weta fest 15.jpg

Hello Future Weta Trimaran owner

The Weta Trimaran is very fast exciting and sometimes very wet boat to sail.  There are numerous opportunities to Race your Weta Trimaran One Design against other Weta Owners.  One good Web site to visit is: https://www.wetanorthamerica.com/ which is the Weta North America Class Association Web Site.  If you click on the events tab you will see all the Weta events that you can compete in.   There are many good videos of the Weta in action on You Tube.  The Weta was designed by a New Zealand Father & Son with input from some  professional Multi – Hull Marine Architects.  The Weta a very strong and light.  The carbon fiber mast is easy to put up, it only weighs 25 pounds.  The entire boat fully rigged with sail up only weighs 275 pounds.  The Weta comes with a custom dolly and sails, running and standing rigging ready to sail for $17,875.00.  You may want the custom trailer which is $1850.00  and has a roller that the dolly rolls on to get the Weta resting on the Dolly on to the trailer.

Some Weta Owners have customized a  flat bed aka deck over trailers to tow their Weta.  The Weta rests on a dolly, then you would need a ramp for the dolly wheels.  You would winch the Weta resting on the dolly up the ramp and on to the trailer.  Then tie it down.

One  nice thing: No matter whether you use the custom Weta Trailer or your own flat bed trailer, your trailer never goes in the water, so the trailer lights always work.  When you get to the beach or boat ramp, you remove the tie downs and slide or roll the Weta (resting on the dolly) off the trailer.  Rig up the Weta while it is on the dolly.  When you are ready to sail you push the Weta (still resting on the dolly) into the water at the beach or boat ramp.  Float the Weta off the dolly, leave the dolly on land and sail away.  The Weta is 11.5 feet or 3.5 meters wide when sailing.  The Aka’s (carbon fiber cross beams) pull out of the center hull and the Ama’s (outer hulls) have a padded resting spot on the dolly.  When ready to trailer the beam (width) is only 7 ft (1.13 Meters).  The Weta is so light you can tow it behind any vehicle that has a trailer hitch.  For more information please contact:  Rick Upson, Owner of Rick’s Small Sailboats LLC
