Also included is a hard cover copy of a book written by a Compact 16 owner named Robert F. Burgess, title: Handbook of Trailer Sailing, Copyright 1984, published by Dodd, Mead & Company. The book is mostly written about the Compact 16 which the author really enjoyed owning and sailing. Most 16 foot sailboats have a center board or dagger board and no ballast. The Compact 16 has a keel which is part of the hull, no keel bolts to rust out, and 450 pounds of ballast. Although the draft is only 18 inches, the boat sails upwind very well due to the foil shaped keel. The boat was designed by Clark Mills and built in Clearwater, Florida by Hutchins Company.
